EMDR INTENSIVES & EXTENDED SESSIONS / WESTFIELD, NJ

Some problems don't need another weekly appointment. They need focused attention.

You can recognize the pattern, understand exactly where it came from, and still find yourself doing the same thing.

Knowing something intellectually and actually being able to change it are two very different things.

I offer 90-minute EMDR sessions, extended sessions, and multi-day EMDR intensives for people who want to dedicate concentrated time to doing the work.

SOUND FAMILIAR? / THE GAP BETWEEN KNOWING & CHANGING 02 / THE RECOGNITION

You've connected the dots. So why are you still stuck?

Maybe you've been in therapy before. Maybe you've done a lot of work on yourself.

You know your triggers. You know your attachment style. You know exactly which childhood experience explains why you react the way you do.

And then something happens, your nervous system has other plans, and all that insight doesn't seem to make much of a difference in the moment.

It's incredibly frustrating to understand yourself this well and still feel like you're having the same reactions.
YOU MIGHT BE CONSIDERING AN INTENSIVE IF...
01

You feel like you're just getting somewhere when your weekly session ends.

02

You've spent a lot of time talking about a particular issue and want to explore another way of working with it.

03

You have a specific experience, belief, or pattern you want to focus on.

04

You already have a therapist but want to incorporate focused EMDR work.

05

You would rather dedicate a larger block of time to treatment than schedule another standing weekly appointment.

None of those automatically mean an intensive is the right fit. But they're good reasons to have the conversation.

I don't think insight is the finish line.

You can understand exactly why you react the way you do and still have your body respond like you're in danger.

That's a big part of why I love EMDR.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people process distressing experiences and the beliefs, emotions, and physical responses connected to them.

An intensive gives us longer, dedicated blocks of time for that work rather than limiting everything to a traditional weekly appointment.

And no, you don't necessarily have to tell me every detail of what happened.

Intensives aren't about rushing therapy. They're about creating enough space to go deeper without having to repeatedly stop just as we're getting somewhere.

THE OPTIONS / DIFFERENT FORMATS, DIFFERENT NEEDS

Let's talk about the actual options.

I offer several EMDR session formats because not everyone needs the same amount of time, and longer isn't automatically better.

BEFORE, DURING & AFTER / HOW THIS ACTUALLY WORKS

We're not just going to jump in and start moving our eyes around.

01 THE CONVERSATION

We talk.

We'll discuss what you're hoping to address, your treatment history, and whether an intensive makes clinical sense.

If I don't think it's the right fit, I'll tell you.

02 THE PLAN

We plan.

We'll identify treatment goals, talk about preparation and pacing, and decide which session format is appropriate.

EMDR isn't just eye movements. There's actual planning involved.

03 THE WORK

We do the work.

We'll move through the treatment process at a pace that makes sense, with time for preparation, reprocessing, and breaks.

We'll also talk about follow-up recommendations and what comes next.

THE FAQ EDIT / 01—08

No mystery. No guessing.

EXPLORE THE QUESTIONS SELECT A QUESTION TO READ MORE
01 Are EMDR intensives more effective than weekly therapy?

Not necessarily. And I'd be skeptical of anyone promising you that a particular treatment format is automatically better.

An intensive gives us longer, more concentrated time to work, which can be helpful if you're addressing a specific experience or pattern, have scheduling constraints, or find that traditional sessions end just as you're getting into meaningful work.

But more hours don't automatically mean better outcomes. Your history, current symptoms, readiness, and available support all matter. We'll discuss whether an intensive makes clinical sense for you rather than assuming it's the right option because it's what I offer.

02 Can I do an EMDR intensive if I already have a therapist?

Yes, potentially. And you don't necessarily have to stop seeing your current therapist to work with me.

I offer adjunctive EMDR, which means we can focus on specific treatment goals while you maintain your existing therapeutic relationship.

With your permission, I can coordinate with your therapist so we're clear about what each of us is addressing, how treatment fits together, and what follow-up support might be helpful.

Not every situation is appropriate for adjunctive treatment, but it's absolutely something we can discuss.

03 Do I have to talk about every detail of my trauma during EMDR?

No. And this is one of the things people are often surprised to learn about EMDR.

EMDR doesn't necessarily require you to describe every detail of a distressing experience out loud. We still need to understand enough about your history and treatment goals to work safely and effectively, but you don't have to provide a play-by-play of everything that happened.

We'll discuss what information is clinically relevant, what you're comfortable sharing, and how to approach the work.

The goal isn't to make you repeatedly retell something painful for the sake of retelling it.

04 How do I know whether I need a 90-minute session or a multi-day intensive?

You don't need to figure that out before contacting me.

We'll look at what you're hoping to address, your treatment history, your current symptoms, and what kind of support you have outside of sessions.

Sometimes a 90-minute appointment makes the most sense. Sometimes an extended session gives us enough room. And sometimes a multi-day intensive is worth considering.

I offer different formats because people have different needs—not because everyone should automatically choose the longest one.

05 Can EMDR intensives help with complex trauma or longstanding patterns?

Potentially, yes. EMDR can be used as part of treatment for longstanding trauma-related difficulties, including experiences that have shaped how you see yourself, relate to others, or respond to stress.

That said, complex trauma doesn't necessarily mean you need a longer intensive.

For some people, a more gradual approach with additional preparation, stabilization, or ongoing support may be more appropriate.

We'll look at the whole picture before deciding what kind of treatment makes sense. I'm interested in doing the work thoughtfully, not seeing how much we can squeeze into a few days.

06 What should I expect after an EMDR intensive?

People respond differently to EMDR. You might feel tired, emotional, relieved, unsettled, or notice changes in how you think about certain experiences. Some people notice very little immediately.

Processing can continue between sessions, which is one reason I want us to talk about your schedule, support system, and what you'll be doing afterward.

We'll discuss what to expect, how to respond if difficult feelings come up, and whether additional support or follow-up treatment is appropriate.

I generally wouldn't recommend planning an emotionally demanding schedule immediately afterward if you have the flexibility to avoid it.

07 Does insurance cover EMDR intensives? Do you offer payment plans?

My practice is private pay. I don't accept insurance or provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

I accept major credit and debit cards, along with HSA and FSA cards. You'll want to confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before using those funds.

Payment plans are available for intensive packages, and we'll discuss the financial arrangements before confirming your dates.

I know these services are a significant investment. I'd rather be clear about the cost upfront than have you wondering what you're agreeing to.

08 What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

The cancellation policy depends on the type of session you've booked.

For 90-minute and extended sessions, cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice are subject to 50% of the session fee. Less than 24 hours' notice is subject to the full fee.

For EMDR intensives, deposits are nonrefundable. If you cancel within seven days of your scheduled intensive, the full package fee is due, including any remaining balance.

We'll review the policies before booking so there aren't any surprises.

THE NEXT STEP / LET'S TALK

I'm a big fan of EMDR. I'm also a big fan of making sure it's the right fit.

I'll explain the options, answer your questions, and give you my clinical opinion. And if I don't think I'm the right therapist for you, I'll tell you that, too.
